about

As winter rings in the end of our calendar year, Youngbloods proudly welcomes American guitarist and composer Stu Pender to its roster with "Electric Petals," the refractive first single from his forthcoming label debut, "Stillness in Motion." Building upon the celebration of ethereal guitar-driven soundscapes in his previous releases, "Stillness In Motion" gently stretches the margins of his original six-stringed daydreams through a widened scope and features his own peaceful, placid vocal meditations for the first time.

A student of the legendary ECM pioneer John Abercrombie, Pender has made a career as a New York-based performer and studio musician. Aside from regular collaborations with Photay, Elijah Wolf, Allison Ponthier, Kareem Ali, and Topaz Jones, Pender is the guitarist for the Brooklyn rap septet Poetic Thrust (alongside fellow Youngbloods labelmate Yoh) and has performed at a number of world-class venues including the United Nations Assembly Hall, Beacon Theatre, and MoMA PS1.

Conjuring an awe-inspired reverie, the floating guitar melodies of "Electric Petals" ripple alongside brass accompaniment from Nat Ranson (Photay, Star Child and the New Romantic) and Jaedon Alvira (Poetic Thrust), anchored by the natural sounds from field recordings captured oceanside near Big Sur, California. Individually, "Electric Petals" is one of nine pieces totaling a greater reflection on finding simplicity in the chaos by pressing pause and taking time from our busy lives for effortless acts and joyful experiences.
